Many years ago, the Christmas lights in Queensferry were fitted by City of Edinburgh council, funded at a cost of £5k per year by the local businesses. This consisted of somewhat large crude concrete blocks with lighting poles dropped at various points along the High St.
With a view to delivering much better lighting for the cost, a new voluntary organisation was formed.
Christmas in Queensferry, founded 2007, has delivered the decorations and switch on event every year since. Raising funds from sponsors, all goes in to the procurement, installation, removal and maintenance of the decorations and the light switch on stage event. The committee members and supporters are all volunteers and take no payment for their time.
Our committee of volunteers currently consists of four community councillors, a ward councillor, Rotarians, local business owners, retired engineers, retired fireman, Ferry Fair committee members, Rosebery Hall staff, local residents.
